Owen Sartori

Sartori has been performing and writing music for years, starting his career as a rock drummer, and later as the front-man for "Push" and "A Band Called Delicious," two well-received modern rock outfits.

In early 2005, he decided to shed the comfortable familiarity of the band scene in favor of a solo musical endeavor. Continuing his tradition of writing quirky, smart pop songs, Sartori is staring down the path of his most admired singer/songwriter predecessors Jason Falkner, Aimee Mann, Ben Folds and Glen Phillips.

"I guess I decided that I was finally done hiding behind a band, you know?" Owen explains. "That period of my life was rife with change, as it turns out, it was all [for the best]. But, at the time, [it isn't always easy to realize] that [with such maturity]. You just know the hurt, which, incidentally, is [great] songwriting fodder."

Through a few twists of fate, Sartori joined with Burst Records. He and producer Daniel Holter are hard at work on Sartori's first solo effort, tentatively titled Another Beautiful Day in the Cube. The heavily emotional record draws from Sartori's experiences with lost loved ones, age milestones, failing relationships and, as the title suggests, corporate work culture.

"It's actually quite a funny record," Sartori remarks. "I tend to combat difficult situations with humor, and the past couple of years have been pretty tough. That's probably why the record is turning out to be [so] funny despite the heavier subject matter."

Burst enlists industry heavyweights on Cube, including Kenny Aronoff, Tom Tucker, John Ferraro, Dave Marotta and Chris Mosher.

Sartori's debut hopes to make dingy, gray cubicles worldwide sparkle with a glimmer of hope instead of fluorescent glare.
